Soft X-ray Single Shot NEXAFS spectroscopy
Single shot near edge x-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectroscopy was demonstrated with a laboratory setup using a laser-produced plasma (LPP) source, special reflection zone plates (RZP) and an X-ray sensitive CCD camera (GE 2048 512 X-ray, greateyes GmbH). NEXAFS enables the investigation of the chemical environment of an analyte, yielding information such as oxidation state, inter-atomic distances or bond angles. With the new laboratory setup, such investigations are feasible with one 1.2 ns long soft X-ray pulse, facilitating monitoring of sample degradation and time-resolved experiments.
Figure: The polychromatic radiation from the LPP source is dispersed horizontally with the RZP optics onto a CCD camera. When inserting a sample into the beam, absorption spectra can be collected.
